I want to learn how to speak Mandarin Chinese, so I would like to see if there is a class offered (Chinese 101) at one of the universities or community colleges. It has to be a night class. I already have my bachelors degree, so I would just be taking one class. The closer to Tysons Corner/McLean, the better.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's hard. My girlfriend speaks Chinese though, so it will be beneficial. I've picked up a little from her.
A friend of mine is in China right now teaching English and he said he basically became fluent in about 6 months of living there.
But my goal is to travel and have a good time in Asia.

If you could let me know how you like the class if you decide to enroll. I am considering the same thing. I got the Mandarin Rosetta Stone for Christmas and will start that soon, and was thinking a class may be a nice addition to it.

Sure. I was thinking about getting the Rosetta Stone, How do you like it? Isn't it like $400? I picked up a couple of audio CDs like "Learn in Your Car" but I think being in the classroom will be better, for someone like me.

I actually haven't started it yet, but will soon. I got level 1, which is like $250. The full package, levels 1-3, is more like $550. I figured I'd start with 1 to make sure I like it. Most people I have talked to have said it is very good - and - coincidentally - said formal classes are for the most part not so good. I'm thinking a combination of the two may be useful though. Who knows!
