Great forum! Can I get suggestions on neighborhoods in Arlington/Alexandria? Here's the deal. I work near the Hill and my husband stays home with our three kids. No pets. The usual stuff: good elementary schools, close to metro (but really not that important, honestly I don't mind driving to my parking space, my hours are such that I don't fight traffic), safe, and preferably suburban stuff (starbucks, grocery stores, movie theatres, etc.) accesible by car. Probably rent for a year ($2000-$3000?) and decide if we like. Basically, how close can I get "boring old suburbia" to the Hill in my price range? We prefer newer to older, if possible. Thanks again!

I'd suggest North Arlington overall. Look into Cameron Station in Alexandria for newer places.

Cameron Station is an excellent suggestion! Also look into Kingstowne which is in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County (not to be confused with the City of Alexandria).

We looked at both areas and think the suggestions above are very good. We settled on an area right by Kingstowne (area code 22315) and are only 2 miles from a metro and have a bit of suburbia right here.. I was a bit disappointed we would not be very close to a Whole Foods or Wegmans but the later is building one very close from what I understand.

+1 for North Arlington

(Clarendon, Ballston, Courthouse, Rosslyn), maybe even a little up 29, areas such as Cherrydale
