I live in Aldie and am looking to join a gym. I'm visiting Lifetime Fitness in Sterling tomorrow and am curious what other people pay for their memberships. If I can have some idea how low they might be willing to go before I get there, I'm hoping I can get a better deal.

Thanks for sharing this personal information!

We joined LA Fitness at the Dulles Mall and loved it. (I haven't been in a few months b/c of being busy!)
We paid a year in advance and it was something like $35 a month. Then the second year you only pay like half the price. SOmething like that.
Also they have a kids club where you pay $10 per month per child and they will watch them up to 2 hours a day while you work out.
Lots of classes, equipment

We're members at the Golds in Chantilly - it's awesome! They have excellent, new and clean facilities, lots of classes, childcare, a "cardio cinema"...the list goes on. It may be a little far from you in Aldie, but they are building a new Golds in South Riding which should be opening in the near future, and membership at the one in Chantilly will also allow you to use the South Riding facility.

My husband and I pay $80 a month - the first membership is $49.99, the second is $29.99. I've always been under the impression that LA Fitness is one of the more expensive gyms, but that could be wrong.

We're members at Lifetime Fitness, which we absolutely LOVE. It's $129/ month per couple with $6 per month for any kid under 12 (allows you 2 free hours of childcare per day) or I think it's $160/ month for a family (2 parents and kids over the age of 12). I think the monthly fees are pretty much set in stone and I haven't heard of anyone getting a discount on those, but you may be eligible for a discount on the $75 admin they charge when you sign up-see if they have discounts for whatever your employer is. There is no contract-you can cancel by the 5th of the month and you're done at the end of the month. Free towels and all the lockers have locks (don't need to bring your own).

If you join the Sterling (platinum club) you can use the clubs in Centreville and Fairfax for free. Centreville is a gold club with no outdoor pool but their indoor pool has 2 waterslides. If you join at Centreville you have to pay more to visit the Sterling club due to the differences in levels.

Good luck. I know it's pricey but we absolutely love Lifetime fitness. It's like a country club without the golf or a resort without the hotel rooms. Now if they would only put a bar in at the outdoor pool...

I had thought that too until we went and priced it out. Paying a year in full made it very affordable!

Thanks so much for the feedback. I ended up joining Lifetime Fitness in Sterling. What an amazing place! I knew before going there that it was more than I wanted to spend on a gym membership, but this place has so much more than just a gym that it was more than worth it. It's extremely family friendly, and the staff has been great every time I've needed anything or had a question. I'm really thrilled with it and so far would recommend it!
