Hi,

To be brief, my company is going under. There have been many layoffs and I am just waiting for mine. I want to relocate to VA because the state I'm in has very little opportunity. I don't care what area of VA I live in, just that I can find a decent job. I will have to commute out to a more afforable area anyway since I will be starting from scratch again. I have over twenty years experience in Supervisory/Management in Warehousing, Inventory Control, also some retail, restaurant. I have heard NVA and Newport News areas still have work? If anyone has any info, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default best area for jobs

Thanks for the reply. The state I'm in shows it has some jobs, but there are so many people applying for that one job, you don't have a shot. I guess what I'm asking is, does there seem to be ample opportunity for the amount of people. I have been checking all the sites ( careerbuilder, etc.) but sometimes people have opinions that are more informative. For example, a friend told me that the Roanoke area doesn't have a lot of jobs. Just looking for some input, so when I get there I know what areas to head for. Thanks again.

The job market is tightening up everywhere, but I'd suggest to sublet an apartment perhaps 3-6mos here in NOVA, and then search for work. Should nothing pan out, you could then move on.

The NOVA area is great for job oppurtunities. With so much gov't in the area, there are tons of jobs. Not just gov't jobs, but all the jobs that support the gov't and those jobs that provide services to those people. Dulles Toll road has a bunch of tech companies on each side of it.

An old coworker lost his job about 3 weeks ago and just got another job. He had an interview, but it was contigent on a clearance that would take a few weeks to months to come back. He got another job offer within offers of getting out of that interview.

Gateman,

keep in mind that you are in Northern Virginia forum.
We might not be able to answer your questions about Roanoke and Newport News, there is Virginia forum for that.
