Hi,
I am planning on going to Cary NC today (Friday) from Falls Church, VA. Just wanted to know what would be a good time. I am new to the area and people have been telling me horror stories about I 95-S

Thanks
KK

You should be on the road already.
Good luck - it is beautiful there!

Thanks, but I will not be able to get off work until at least 4.
Does it then make sense to wait till 7 or so, or even much later?
Would 6 or 6:30 be awful?

6 or 6:30 would be ideal only if you want a 5mph tour of I-95 south from the Beltway to Fredricksburg. I would wait until at least 7, probably closer to 8. Yes, it is that bad.

When I go down to Durham I typically leave at between 8-10am. Pretty clear the whole way down and I get there just in time for a late lunch. As of right now, I'd say get on the road ASAP. If it hits 4:00 and you're not outside of the Beltway yet, I'd wait until 7:30. It clogs up starting around 5:00 and works its way south a little past Fredericksburg (50 miles down 95).

We always leave before 8 on the weekends and around 9 on weekdays (heading south)..NEVER be on it in the afternoon unless you are going against flow of traffic....It's really the only way to keep sanity and always....if you can...try to hit HOV!! Good luck!
