Hi again! I have some friends coming to visit. They're planning to stay at a hotel in Sterling and spend their (week)days in downtown DC. I've only been here a few months, and never to Sterling, but I'm thinking this is going to be a horrendous drive during rush hour. What do you think? An hour? Two? They'll be able to use any HOV lanes, if that helps, but I'm not sure it will.

Horrible drive, and will add a lot of anxiety to their adventure. Tell them to take the metro. For many it's a tourist attraction in itself.

Yep, horrible drive. The rush hour from there into DC lasts well into the 9:30 hours. Sometimes the bridges into DC are still stop-and-go at 10:00 a.m. I think they are nuts. If they try to drive to a Metro stop and aren't super early, they probably won't get a parking spot either.

What are they thinking?

Thanks, Normie & Christine! I just clarified that they are planning to take the Metro, and will add the bit about getting a parking spot. Not sure why they chose Sterling . . . maybe a good rate on a hotel room.

Find out where they are in Sterling, it's possible they're near one of the busses that can take them to the metro. That's a good way to go.

The Dulles Toll Road could play into it.
