Just to close our portion of the story, we decided the house in old town was a little to much work for us to take on. Our hand was somewhat forced due to the timeframes. We are supposed to this Friday on the blooms crossing home and we are very excited.

The Manassas Area Schools are all about the same (Manassas Park, Manassas City, and PWC)

Manassas Park has newer schools. The new elementary school in the Blooms Crossing neighborhood is LEED certified. If you take the VRE to work, Manassas Park VRE is better than Old Town because it is closer to DC.

Default Welcome to Bloom's Crossing

TextileWolf,

I think you made a good choice. We just moved into Blooms Crossing and really like it. Cougar Elementary is very nice and we're very happy with the progress of our 2nd grader.

I'm always a bit confused why so many people slam Manassas Park. We looked for houses all over PWC and conducted a very thorough fact-based analysis of the pluses and minuses of schools, taxes, crime, commuting and other quality of life issues.

The only real minus was the high taxes. Some people really require an Alexandria-like community atmosphere, we didn't. We're all right with having immigrants in our community and having lower income homes and businesses nearby. Edit -(I understand that immigrants are in all areas and plenty of people welcome them into their community - my comment about immigrants is in response to many posts I've read about immigrants in Manassas Park - I'm not trying to start a flame war!)

We would have been just as happy in Manasssas, Woodbridge, Gainesville or Bristow.

I think you made a great choice.

Dan

PS- send me a personal note if you would like some lessons learned about our move and suggestions and directions around the area

A 50 minute commute is better than a 55 minute commute

I'm moving to Manassas this week, and have potentially reserved an apartment at Wellington Place off of Dumfries Road. Any thoughts about the area, complex, in general would be appreciated.

I assume you mean Old Town Manassas since you're asking about apts in Manassas. Most people mean Old Town Alexandria when they say old town.

Old Town Manassas is a nice walking downtown. Several good restaurants and stores to include a Civil War store and old book store I really like. They have concerts during the warmer months and actually had one last night.
