Create-peace--thanks for the update. I still watch that area every once in a while. My friend bought his condo for $225K in 2006. It's now probably worth $100K. I hope things turnaround soon....

Default why woodlake towers has low prices

I also wonder why the prices are so low and rents lower than other neighbouring apartments. I find that it offers a very good living and would increase in value if the management takes regulatory measures, such as, keeping strict control on the number of people living in one unit and enforcing strict panalties for non-payment of condo fees. Moreover, Condo 1 that handles real estate matters and rentals (for Woodlake Towers) wants to keep low prices for ownership/rentals unlike what the market dictates. As a result, Woodlake Towers also attracts people who would bring persistent issues for the management (non-payment of condo fees, too many people in one apartment, etc.)

My wife and I rented there from 2006 - 2010.

Pros: The location is nice and convenient, and there are amenities with the convenience store, gym, and pool, and guest rooms available for $40 per night. We were able to save for a down-payment on our house due to the affordable rent our lanlord gave us (there are a lot Condo owners that rent-out the units).

Cons: The only interaction I had with the manager Cihack was a very strange situation. I went on a three-week overseas business trip and my license plate registration tags were in the mail at the time. Manager Cihack authorized a predatory tow to East Coast Towing to tow my 2002 Honda Civic while I was abroad under some "derelict vehicle" clause in the HOA by-laws without prior warning, phone call, or anything. The charge was a predatory $400 dollars (cash only)! So there I am after 15 hours of travel calling 911 thinking my car is stolen and then taking a taxi at 1 am to an ATM in seven-corners to get my car from a shady tow-yard off Route 50 to get to work the next morning. No kidding. Days later, after trying to discuss the situation to no avail with property management, Cihack, whom I have never met in my life, writes me an odd nastygram for challenging him; so I escalated to BBB complaint status and a Fairfax County consumer affairs complaint. After these actions they basically admitted to ripping me off ("accidental overcharge by the computer system") and were forced to refund me $225 (VA anti predatory towing laws cap the towing fees at $175). Cihack and the towing company were so defensive, it was almost like he was getting a kickback from the towing company or the HOA needed money badly or something. Maybe that's not too far from the truth.

At any rate, we enjoyed living at WLT, but happy not to have to deal with the bizarre behavior of property manager Cihack and HOA etc., anymore.

In regards to the traffic - I live very close to this area right off of RT 50. I typically do not much traffic at all coming up RT 50 to this point. Past 7 Corners is where the traffic tends to get bad.

Is this place safe and quiet? Do the walls block out noise?

Also what's the best way to get to the metro from the building?

No one has complained about the noise especially on the top floors. You walk a few yds to Arlington Blvd. and wait for the bus (prob 410) to take to Rosslyn metro.

I am a single middle-aged woman and while the unit I rent is quite nice, and the landlord is great, I have to say I am sorry I moved here (in summer 2009, from Falls Church City). There are way too many renters (I know, I know) who have lots of small children and, let's say, lax notions of supervision to not let their children impinge on the peace and quiet of others. There are only 3 washing machines per floor, for about 30 units, which is a pain. This is not a walkable community at all. There is no way I would ever buy here and not have my own washer/dryer. They spent millions to put in new rugs and paint the doors, renovate balconies--i.e., cosmetic things--but are regularly turning off the water for repairs, and the AC has stopped working more than once. You would think they'd spend the millions on the boilers. On the other hand, two years and no increase in condo fees.

Default good/bad

hello there,
it is a very good place to live, near DC, Tyson's Corners and will get around everywere you need to go from here. Howerver if you are buying an apartmet there. the only bad side i see is the condo Fee it near $600 so you might want to think about that along with your loan payment, and they keep increasing that every year i guess. i lived there for 5 years in those apartments. Parking is more then enough all utilities are included in condo fee but its still alot to me. someone broke into my car twice, so if you have a fancy car b aware and try not to leave anything valueble on your car seat.
Good Luck

I'm considering placing an offer on a unit in this community and from the overall appearance I think it seems fine. But, before I make such a big step (i'm a first time homebuyer and this will be my very first offer), I'd feel much more comfortable with any feedback from people that currently or have lived there in the past.

Have you had any problems with the building (parking, maintenance, etc)?
Is the area safe compared to Arlington/Alexandria?
Is traffic congested in that area during rush hour or moreso than other areas in NoVa?
Any other positive/negatives that I should be aware of?

I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks

Smile I recommend Woodlacke Towers

I have been living in Woodlake Towers for the past 25 years, it is a great place to live at, so close to all the convenience and far away from troubles. It keep improving, it is safe, nice and friendly. All the people I met has great memories here. Yes the traffic isn't good in Seven Corners but that beyond Woodlake Towers. My husband worked in DC for 20 years, the in Vienna for the past 5 years and he likes his commute, both east and west 50 during the rush hours. Actually this was one of the reasons we stayed here, and our children went schools here, and went to George Mason, and George Washington Universities and again you can't ask for better location.
Like any communities we might have issues, but we work on fixing it as soon as we know about it. You have to be proactive any where you go, and not just sit back and wait until things get fixed.

I hope to see more of you here, so we could have a great community.
