Ok, headed to Kings Dominion in the future and looking at hotels in the area. I noticed from reviews on tripadvisor.com, all hotels in Ashland got trashed big time, even the ones next door to Kings Dominion (Doswell) got trashed too as well as those in Ruther Glenn.

Now I know there are some good and bad hotels out there, but I can't imagine that ALL of them would have 95% bad reviews with 1 or 2 people saying the hotel was ok or fine.

So maybe someone can give me some info on that area. The way those reviews read, its like that area turned into a war zone. I was there many moons ago and don't recall it being that terrible.

It's a pretty crappy area around King's Dominion. I don't mean that as it is unsafe, it is just very depressed and not much around. I have never heard of anyone having a good hotel experience around there. Not sure where you live but from the NOVA area, it is really a quick drive and not necessarily a 2-day park.

I agree about the area right around there being pretty crappy. We were there over mothers day weekend. The hotel right there near the property looks like something out of the 70's. Exterior doors, etc. If you just want a place to sleep, then it's doable, but if you want somewhere to eat and relax around a pool etc, then I don't really think there is anyplace like that.

And I completely agree...I could not imagine doing two days in a row there. Just get there early and stay late.
