Hi Folks, we are relocating from Germany to NoVa, and my husband will be working at Ft. Belvoir. We really wanted to live in Lake Ridge but there are just not that many housing choices, and Montclair seems to be a comparable community, but I wonder about the commute since it seems so far down 95 compared to Lake Ridge. Driving during regular work hours (9-5), what would the commute be from Montclair to Belvoir? What about off-hours like 6:30am-3pm? Thanks so much for any first-hand experience you have

Leaving for work at 8:00 would be pretty bad. Not only traffic but parking at his duty station. Some places on Belvoir are pretty bad. Starting at 6:30 wouldn't be too bad, though around here that is pretty normal and not really "off hours" as many to do that...me among them. The advantage would be being able to take the HOV lane up to the Fairfax county parkway before restrictions start, but the return leg you would miss the window for the the HOV, which starts at 3:00. Welcome home!

sure have, but prices for a stand-alone house are tooooo high for our budget, so we've been looking south of Belvoir in PWC.

You probably won't notice much of a difference in commute time between Montclair and Lake Ridge. While Lake Ridge has a I-95 exit that is closer to Belvoir, depending where you live in Lake Ridge, it can be kind of hard to GET to 95. My mom lives in Lake Ridge (off Old Bridge Road) but pretty far up (Springwoods). She said that mornings and evenings are NOT a breeze on that road. So, besides the weekends and outside of rush hour, it's not a quick trip to 95.

I would say that if you left your house around 5:45 from Montclair you could get to Belvoir within 30 minutes. Not sure what the parking situation is. I can get to Belvoir quicker on the weekends of course.
