Hi,
My husband currently is a window tinter in the Phoenix metro area. We are anticipating moving to NOVA next summer to be near family. I can pretty much get a teaching job anywhere but we are wondering what kind of a market there is for window tint. Obviously it is not as popular as it is in Phoenix but is it a profitable industry in the area? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I think tinting laws are stricter in VA than many other states, but I can't tell you about the business side of things.

I can tell you that there are a bunch of tint places in NOVA already. One of the more well known one is LA Tint, but there are also lots of smaller shops too. I wouldn't know the business side of things though.

Yes, VA tinting laws are more strict.

Yes, I cannot tell you about the business side of things.

But, if you think about it, it's a large metropolitan area, lots of traffic, lots of cars, lots of people who care about their cars, I have tint, you have tint, lots of people do have tint.

There are already a lot of them here, but somehow you would need to break the ice and show people that you are better or cheaper or have better service.
Review websites are big now. Get on yelp.

I think his area is more conservative when it comes to window tint. I have dark tint on my car but I notice few cars here do it.

Another thing I've noticed... NoVA has a lot of people who drive really nice cars (Porsches, BMWs, Merc, etc.) But man are they dirty! If your going to drop $60k on an auto, why wouldn't you wash it?

Is there a law against the car wash stalls where you do it yourself? I actually like washing MY car (don't bother asking me to do yours) but there are virtually no self serve washing bays. I think that would be a better moneymaking venture, if the law allows it. ...And especially with so many people who live in condos.

There are some in Manassas. I too prefer the self-serve bays.
