OK folks, the next several posts are a photo tour of Lowe's Island.

Per VRE’s suggestion, I am posting these photos without comment, allowing you guys to draw your own conclusions and look at the details that interest you.

One note, however—many of these photos were taken because a small detail caught my eye (for example, people driving golf carts on the main road, or front doors painted in different, bright colors.)

These are not “artistic” photos, my aim was to help people who want to move here get a feel for the place. The photos were taken on a Wednesday morning in late July, 2009. The weather is overcast but some blue sky is peaking through. The grass is just starting to turn brown, that’s normal for late July.

OK, I know I said no comments. But this one deserves it.
This is the road to the original farm. Now used for hiking/biking.
Notice the overhead wires; the rest of Lowes Island has buried wires.

Decks and Backyards
(note: some backyards are very small, most of these photos represent the larger yards. The third photo represents a typical small yard.)

Community Buildings and Misc. A few of these are not officially in Lowes Island. The firehouse, for example, is about 3/4 mile from the boundaries. But they're all within walking distance. The shopping plaza has a pedestrian tunnel underneath Algonkian Parkway and a commuter bus to the West Falls Church metro.

Lowes Island Estates; has separate entrance and roads but shares services with Lowes Island (aka if you live in LI you can use the pool in LI Estates). The two sections are connected by paths. No sidewalks in the estates (but they do have horse/walking trails). These photos were taken last year, I think in the winter.

And while we’re at it, here are some other photos taken last winter. Some are before a snowfall, others are after the snowfall.
