So, if you've seen my posts we're looking for a new house. We've looked all over Northern Virginia and excellent schools are my top priority.

Does anyone know anything about Great Falls in Loudon County? Is it safe? Schools? Community? Parks? The normal stuff a family would like to know...?

Much thanks again citydata community.

Great Falls is in Fairfax County, not Loudoun. It is also probably the most expensive community in Northern Virginia. Schools are excellent, although the middle and high school aren't terribly close, as they are inside the beltway. It is incredibly safe and has a lot of parks, including a National Park.

I'm not sure what you would find in Great Falls for under a million, though. And if by new house you mean one built in 2009, you're probably talking closer to two million...

I think the OP was looking at the Lowes Island area in eastern Loudoun county that has a great falls zip code. The elementary school is Lowes Island elementary. It is a good school.

Novajs- that's exactly what I'm talking about. I clearly know of Great Falls in Fairfax County, but the 22066 zip code falls into Great Falls- Loudon.

Yes, Lowes Island... around that area... Good? Safe?? THoughts?

Sorry, before I posted I doubled checked online ZIP code boundaries to make sure 22066 extended into Loudoun, and neither of the sites I used indicated that it did.

Isn't Lowes Island in 20165?

Lowes Island is in 20165, Great Falls Forest is in 22066. And, yes, it is Great Falls in Loudoun County. That must be a real blow to would be Fairfax County snobs. I live in Lowes Island and can walk to Great Falls Forest.

The students do go to Lowes Island Elementary School, at least this year. Always check the boundaries for the next school year to be certain. Great Falls Forest is a very nice neighborhood, about 20 years old, attractive homes, very safe neighborhood. The closest park is Algonkian, which is right on the Potomac, with river access for fishing, boating and kayaking if so inclined. There is also a public golf course there. However, the residents there do not have access to Lowes Island or Cascades pools and other amenities. There is a public pool at Algonkian Park.

Good luck to you in your home search and welcome to Loudoun County!
