Hey everyone... I'm a 28 year old Second Class petty Officer moving from Virginia Beach to the NOVA/DC area in a couple of months... Can someone help me figure out where to live? BAH for a single E5 is $1500, and I'd love to get a dog and have some country when i get there, but a decent commute to Suitland and the city. I grew up in NOVA so I'm familiar with the area, does anyone have any suggestions in the $1000-$1300 range in a good neighborhood? (NOT Suitland!)

Unless you find something on militarybyowner.com, you might be lucky to find a decent 1 or 2BR apt in your range, let alone a home with a backyard. Your luck might be better down in Prince William County but you may come to resent the commute up I-95 (let alone across the Wilson Bridge).

I know this is not what you want to hear, but you need to live in Maryland. Anything close to the Wilson Bridge is going to be out of your price range (or really nasty and/or sketchy), and if you move down to Prince William and try to commute to Suitland as a single passenger auto, you will hate your life unless you work oddball hours.

Have you looked at living in Charles or Calvert counties, or Upper Marlboro? Any of those three options might work better.

Would you want to live in base housing? We live on Bolling AFB and my husband works at ONI. I think it's only like eight miles.
