Money Magazine sure seems to like Vienna. It's ranked as a "healthy town" to retire to.

Best places for a healthy retirement - Vienna, VA (19) - Money Magazine

Great, but why would anyone want to retire in this area, period?

Well, if one could afford to maintain the same standard of living and not have to go to work, a place like Vienna might be appealing to retirees.

So Money Magazine previously thought Vienna was the fourth best place in the country to live and now thinks it's the 19th best place to retire. Does that mean it's likely to be named the 34th best place to die in a few years?

NoVa is the number 1 place for one's soul to die

Especially when real estate and property taxes are due.

I love Vienna, but it's rather expensive for retirees. The property taxes are killers for those on fixed incomes. Can't imagine why retirees would chose an expensive area with horrible traffic and less-than-great weather.

What makes Vienna "healthier" than Arlington, Reston, or any other nearby locale? Is it the presence of Whole Foods (even though both Arlington and Reston have one as well?) Is it the presences of gyms and health spas (even though both Arlington and Reston have them as well?) I just don't understand what about Vienna makes it "healthier" than any other part of NoVA? This is like the pollsters who said Herndon was better than Reston to be a young affluent single person. Herndon definitely has a more family-oriented vibe.

Money Magazine loves Vienna. They probably didn't even compare it to other areas of NoVA, but its there go-to, DC-suburb for any ranking.

I'm not questioning Vienna as a great place to live. I'm just wondering what about it in particular sets it a "step above" every other nearby locale---Oakton, Reston, Great Falls, Arlington, etc. With all due respect while I thought the town was very nice (albeit not my style) when I drove down for a visit this past Thursday I really don't know what makes it better-ranked than everywhere else in the region. My guess would be someone from the magazine must have a vested real estate interest in Vienna.
