We would like suggestions about where to buy a house between Fredericksburg and Arlington.

My husband got a job in Stafford County off of route 17 so we moved into an apartment nearby. Then, I got a job in Arlington and right now am experiencing 95 traffic in all it's "glory."

We want to move into a house once our lease is up, but are wondering what area to move to. We only make around 80k and we think it's more cost effective to stay somewhat closer to his work, however I would like my commute on a good day to be closer to 35-45 minutes rather than a solid hour. (I don't usually drive in rush hour due to my flexible schedule.) Any suggestions?

Given your combined salary, you won't want to go any further north than Prince William County to be able to find a (single family) house within your budget. Woodbridge, Dale City, Dumfries, Aquia and Triangle would all be in the midpoint range between Arlington and Fredericksburg. I don't know enough details about the individual towns to give more suggestions.

I have lived in Prince William for 25 years my mom live in Fredricksburg the commute to see her somethime can be like taking a day trip by the time you go back and forth depending on traffic. Prince William is about as far north as you will be able to afford and it would be a reverse commute for your husband's work. Do yourself a favor and find out what you qualify for with a good local lender so you can make informed choices. The Prince William market has very good values but very low inventory so be prepared when the time comes. And start 90 days before you need to move. Good Luck
