I want to buy some paintings for my bedroom and am looking for ideas on some good places to go. Some place other than the art galleries you find in a mall. It doesn't have to be an art store, per se--if you know of a furniture store that has a lot of paintings for sale I'll try that too. I'm looking for something contemporary or perhaps botanical/nature oriented. Thanks!

Home Goods, Marshalls, etc. they pretty much sell similar pieces as a furniture store AND at a discount!

If you want original work, go to the Torpedo Factory and browse through there. For botanticals, especially watercolors, the visitors center at Greensprings Garden Park on Little River Turnpike has local artists' work on display and for sale.

Greensprings! I wouldn't have thought of that one. Thanks! I'l have to check out Marshalls, too. The last few times I've bought art I went to the Reston Arts Festival. Beautiful things, but not in my budget this year.

Lorton Work House, a growing Torpedo Factory-like venue in the old Lorton Prison on Ox Rd just up the hill from Occoquan. There are probably shops in Occoquan Village proper that sell paintings. There's a painter who regularly displays inside at Huntsman Square Shopping Center. She specializes in nature watercolors. She's there right now.

All of this. Some of the paintings on display a few years ago inside the Huntsman Square Shopping Center (Giant grocery store, corner of Fairfax County Parkway and Huntsman Blvd.) were exceptionally attractive/original. We really enjoyed looking at them.

One of my favorite places is Z-Gallery in Tysons Corner. It has a lot of the stuff that is featured in Ballard Designs.

The Home and Garden show is coming up, and they usually have five or six booths selling paintings. Some of it's so so, but some of it is surprisingly good.
