I'm looking for recommendations in two separate categories.

1) I need a decent mechanic. I'm switching my plates over to VA and I know I need a little work on my car prior to the safety/emissions tests. Obviously, I want to get that done before I go in for the actual tests so I don't get screwed by some opportunistic inspector. So, recommend an honest and quality mechanic in the Alexandria area...we're thinking Duke Street and 395-ish.

2) I need a haircut! I was totally in love with my hairstylist back in Colorado and while I don't expect anyone here to replace her right away, I am looking for a place that's creative and not ridiculously expensive. Again, in Alexandria, preferably near Duke Street and 395-ish. But really, anyone in NoVA is fine...ladies, just share with me your favorite hair salons or stylists!

Thank you!

Amanda

I really like Yates Garage. They are in Del Ray, walking distance from Old Town Alexandria. They're not cheap but we've always found them to be honest & good workers.

I don't know any hair stylists in Alexandria, but I just wanted to say I love the idea of making that a combo business venture. Get your hair done while you wait for work to be done on your car! You could call it Hair and Repair. Or Look Like A Star While We Fix Your Car.

As a multitasker I love Normie's idea...

But since we don't have one of those, I would suggest Salon Prive in Lorton, Omar is great....for your hair, not your car.

I saw a very nice haircut today and asked the lady about it. She goes to Christian (a young German hairdresser) at Solage on Pickett St near the intersection with Duke.

Hey, thanks for the responses!

When I posted this topic I actually thought to myself, "Hrm...this sounds like an excellent business proposition!" I mean, seriously. No one likes to just sit around waiting for their car to be repaired.

So when Virginians need to get their safety inspection do they just go to the nearest garage and cross their fingers they don't get ripped off by the mechanics? I mean, maybe I'm a little paranoid here but my boyfriend and myself are pretty broke so I'm hyper vigilant.

Maybe I'll just check out the garage across the street from me. Oh, and for haircuts...looks like there are lots of options in that realm!
