Is the area near Rosslyn Metro ok? (Arlington, Orange: rental, condos)

While looking at possible hotels for some family members to stay in Virginia near an Orange Line Metro, I noticed that some of the hotels in Rosslyn are cheaper than some further out areas in Arlington, so I was wondering if there was something wrong with Rosslyn that I'm not aware of. Specifically, is Rosslyn considered safe enough so people not familiar with the area could walk to and from the Metro without concern?

Yes. Rosslyn is just fine. Rosslyn is noted to be the most "boring" part of the Arlington's otherwise "hip" and uber-expensive Orange Line corridor (Ballston, Clarendon, Court House), so the fact that you are out of the nightlife action just a bit might have something to do with the better hotel room rates. You're directly across the Key Bridge from Georgetown in the District and only a few stops away on the train from Metro Center in DC, where you can transfer from the orange line to the red line (Smithsonians). Rosslyn is basically just a dense concentration of mid-rise office buildings. I'd imagine it must be pretty dead on the weekends. It, for all intents and purposes, is DC's "skyline."

The differential in hotel room rates probably reflects the fact that some of the hotels in Rosslyn are older properties, more so than the difference in the nightlife between Ballston or Clarendon and Rosslyn (which is not to say that there isn't more of a nightlife in Ballston and Clarendon).

While comparatively sedate, Rosslyn is a safe area. There are also condos and rental buildings in the area, so it's not entirely office buildings. There is also a fair amount of street traffic on the weekends, as quite a few people take the metro to Rosslyn and walk across Key Bridge to Georgetown.

the lower cost of hotels in Rosslyn is probably just supply/demand. Crystal City is much closer to the airport, and that will always remain in demand. I don't think the prices are any indication of Rosslyn as a whole.
