HI!

I'm a single late 20 something black professional female moving from the West Coast to the DMV within the month. I'm looking for a diverse neighborhood with a good amount of black professionals in the area. My company is located in Fairfax, VA, but since my social life is my top priority I would like to live as close to DC as possible with a 25 to 45 minute commute. I want to stay in the 1,200 to 1,500 price range. I'm currently looking at Shirlington Village and Pentagon City as options. Can anyone give me advice on additional neighborhoods or whether you think these are good neighborhoods to consider. I hear that the reverse commute would not be bad coming from the city, but I know that all depends on which side of the city you're coming from. I would like to be in an urban community nears shops and restaurants and be close to DC (Specifically the U Street area.) I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

Both Shirlington Village and Pentagon City are good options to you. There is a mall in Pentagon City with a very diverse mix of ethnicity in the area (lots of high rises apts). There are also plenthy of restaurants, from fast food to chain to semi-fine dining. If you are close to the metro, your price range may be a bit tough. I would also look into the Alexandria area along King and 395, some areas around the Van Dorn, Seminary Road, and Mark Center may also be other options.

I agree with the previous poster. Try looking in the Alexandria area near King Street--Fairlington and Shirlington are both good options as both neighborhoods are close to 395 which is quick and easy access to DC. Check craigslist for rentals and also find a realtor in the area who can locate condos/townhouses for rent by owner. Good luck!
