All these revived threads about local home builders led me to check out the ANV web site.

Don't know much (OK, anything) about the quality of their homes, but it cracked me up when I saw that one of their suburban, colonial model homes is called the "Adams Morgan"

ANV Group Luxury Home Tour - The Adams Morgan #1

Am I missing something here? I thought Adams Morgan is a quasi-bohemian part of DC with a lot of bars and restaurants, not a floor plan. I'm not sure our efforts to claim this area has pockets of hipness will gain much traction if the newest McMansion on the block turns out to be "The Del Ray."

Are there other examples of funny home names in the NoVa area? I seem to remember a book poking fun of a NoVa neighborhood that was full of "Grand Monets" built by one of the area builders...

Miller and Smith in Brambleton has the "1920s Collection" for their Arts-and-Crafts-style homes - there's "Rhapsody in Blue", "Clara Bow", and "Fannie Farmer." Their townhouses were the "Magic Collection" - "Merlin" and "Houdini".

These names seem whimsical, so I give Miller and Smith two thumbs up for them.

The 1920s Collection works because it fits with the style of the homes. But what does "Merlin" or "Houdini" tell you about a typical NoVA townhome? Someone was getting very creative in Creative.

Houdini might make me a little nervous... like the roof (or some other important feature) might disappear into thin air. But I'd still buy a model with a name like that. Now if the name of my house model was "The Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha" I might have second thoughts...

Maybe the "Houdini" is supposed to tell you that you've made a "great escape" from the NoVa rat-race when you arrive home in your well-appointed Brambleton townhome?

The townhouse I once bought was called the "Georgetown" but I think it should have been more aptly named "The Low Bidder".

I saw a cluster of cul-de-sacs in the far-out Maryland 'burbs and the neighborhood was named "Bordeaux"

Needless to say, a strip of 75 identical houses along with 150 oversized american cars doesn't exactly conjure up images of the wine-making region of France...

I kept seeing "the popular Merlin model" in some townhouse listings I looked at and thought wt*? Now it makes sense. I actually like those names..
