It is ridiculous. Last night Alexandria public schools announced a 2 hour delay. I'm fine with that and it's understandable. Couldn't believe it when I was driving to work and heard on the radio that they, and Ffx Co, closed the schools. I just verified it online. As I said, ridiculous. The streets are clear, I shoveled the walks this morning and there was nothing to it. Driving in, all side streets were clear, driving was normal, no slipping, no worries.

LOL--yes, even though it would have been a great shot, this might be a good day to tread gently. Don't pick on people, try to have a little extra patience, blah blah blah, and don't play paparazzi and take photos of the grumpy faces. Many people are down to their last frayed nerve and they might just whack you with the snow shovel!

By the way... just curious what ajzjmsmom stood for. Acronym for a favorite saying maybe?

Yes, I have big plans for them today, they will be wishing for school here pretty soon

Whoah! And I wanted to complain about trying to keep ONE kid entertained through today. Good luck!

Should've been a two hour delay. Thought I was in VA, not Seattle.

Agreed 2 hour delay would have been fine. Everything is pretty clear including the parking lots. Of course, Pr. Wm. had difficulties with the last 2 hr. delay -- some of the students were not picked up due to slippery roads and they had to issue an apology (it is on their website) so we all knew they would over-react this go around. They called it VERY early in the morning but I was expecting Fairfax to call a 2 hour delay. Now Fairfax have school on 2/15 -- a holiday!!!

I totally agree, a 2-hour delay is all the was needed today. I guess it must be hard to predict, though.

It may be hard to predict, but the announcement says they made the change from 2 hour delay to closing at 5:50 this morning. If anything, conditions at that time should have confirmed they were correct to initially delay, not close.

The plows had already cleared the streets by then, several times. The forecast was for temps in the 40s today.

I think the administrators just looked out their windows, saw the snow on the trees and a few inches on their cars, and said "whoa, that's a lot of snow!"

I think they're always terrified of a lawsuit. My guess is they made the initial announcement, then got a few angry phone calls from panic mongers, and by this morning they caved. One person whines and everyone else ends up suffering.

I'm ready to shift focus to the next storm.

Capital Weather Gang's prediction for this weekend is:

20% chance: Less than 2"
25% chance: 2-6"
30% chance: 6-12"
25% chance: 12"+

So I'm guessing we'll get about a foot of snow.
