Actually, I hear the trucks outside now. There's no point in the plows going out early for 3-5 inches of snow, when they can go out later while no one is on the roads, and the snow has stopped falling. This weekend the plowing was hit-or-miss, depending on the roads that you were on, but today it's going to be above freezing, which should clear up most of the stuff. Yes, it sucks to drive in, but I have to admit, that stuff is beautiful outside. Live a little, will ya? Life's too short to complain about it.

With the snow on the ground and the major lack of intelligence of NoVA drivers I'm worried about living period. This snow is getting old and is gonna ruin my weekend.

My roads are clear. Even the side streets. A plow just went by now, but they'd already plowed them by the time I got up at 5:30. They didn't plow my side streets last snowstorm when we got the big snow, but the main roads were plowed.

I love it here in NoVA, but I think the OP has a point, curmudgeonly as he is about it. I don't expect the area to deal well with a blizzard like we had in December, but snowfalls like we had last night happen here almost every year. That 13 inches we usually get usually comes down in the course of a few 2 inch storms. It really shouldn't cause this kind of chaos. It's not like we don't have any plows or weather forecasting technology at all, for heaven's sake.

I was out walking the four-legged one at 5:15 am and the plows had already been by -- the streets are clear (and it is really beautiful outside).

I have a fairly good view of a few roads in my area. From what I can see, the main road has been plowed and looks good. Cars seem to be handling the side roads without anyone slipping (so far at least). The scary part for me today will be negotiating the parking lot of the office complex that my dentist is in. You have to make a few sharp turns, and of course he's in the building all the way in the back. I hear we'll have dense fog this morning--that ought to make things interesting.

It is pretty, though. Winter wonderland sounds so trite but it's the perfect description.

Wall Street Journal was delivered this morning, so the newspaper carrier feels safe driving around.

I think some people forget that these resources (salt, plows, manpower) don't just grow on trees and need to be carefully budgeted for each year. Before this winter, I think we had about 4 winters in a row with well below average snowfall.

Maybe the counties and cities in NOVA need to rethink how they allocate our tax money to winter resources, but it isn't as easy as some of you wish.

Yes, the plow came by already too!!! The roads are clear!

In NYC, they have these snow melting machines -- they literally melt the snow and it goes into the sewer system.

wow, didn't think the OP deserved to get slammed just because they have a difference of opinion. Not cool.
