Hunters Woods is NOT the best elementary school. Try Forrest Edge or another school in the north end of Reston. Unless your child LOVES, LOVES, LOVES, art projects, in every subject, and very fuzzy math, he will hate Hunters Woods. There is no science at this arts and science magnet, just art, art, and more art.

Lots of kids in the Hunters Woods area go to different private schools. On one street there, kids went to 8 different schools. That makes it somewhat more difficult to make friends.

My family lives in a single family house in South Reston. My kids attended (one is still there) Sunrise Valley ES. I've been in education myself for my whole career, so I feel I sometimes can be unfairly critical of schools. I have to say that we have been extremely happy with this school. Both my kids have gotten wonderful educations, there is a tremendous sense of community, and it is clear that the staff care about the children. I would not hesitate to send another child here or recommend that anyone else do the same. Don't let the labels of North vs. South be your driving factor.
