Whether you're waiting for the Metro bus/train to arrive, or waiting in traffic, most of us here in NoVA put in a good quality chunk of time just "waiting."

So what do you do to pass the time while waiting for transportation in NoVA?

My activities vary:
  • listen to music, podcasts (NYTimes has a good one) on my ipod
  • giving the occasional directions to tourists (my favorite summer waiting hobby)
  • general spacing out
  • reading Express (takes about 3 minutes)
  • doodling art (not good art)
  • sketching plans for random DIY projects (i.e. building shelves for my closet)

While on the metro I used to read. While in traffic I'd listen to the radio - talk radio on 630 am.

I have my car radio tuned to WAMU, public radio discussion. I can't read when riding in a moving vehicle (get vicious headaches), so on the occasions when I have any extended passenger travel without a known companion to chat with (no, I'm not one of *those* people who insists on conversing with you whether you're open to it or not), then I people watch or listen to tunes on an MP3/iPod thingee.

Respond to emails, surf the internet, or read (thank you, unlimited data cell phone plan!)

In the car I channel surf like a champion.

I send messages to The Mothership, but, so far, Metro has proved slightly more reliable.

Blackberry on the Metro, with a book for when I'm done. Music in the car; I have my six channels that I surf through and if there's no good song on any of them I switch to a CD.

If anyone ever needs directions to anywhere, I am almost always the person they pick out of the crowd! So giving directions to tourists too!

My Ipod touch while on lunch and before work. Reading a book or doing homework while waiting for customers at my job.

I listen to WAMU 88.5 (NPR) and 91.9 (Christian Rock). Both get my mind off the traffic and on to something more interesting.
