The Virginia legislators voted today to allow people to carry handguns into bars. I'm flabbergasted! Oh, but no worry--they won't be allowed to drink! So, my question to you is would you walk out if you saw some cowboy enter with heat strapped to his waist? I wonder how this impacts bars that share space with a restaurant, where families could be present? So, one can by guns without a background check in our state at a gun show and take it to the local bar to show it off to his/her buddies. Our new governor will sign the bill. This is one time I'm glad a governor can't serve a second term, but he can still do a lot of damage in 4 yrs.

Well. The good news is there are no bars in Virginia by law. So we are back to just restaurants, and guns have always been allowed in restaurants by law. The new law allows CONCEALED handguns in restaurants. Openly carried handguns have always been allowed in restaurants. If you haven't seen someone in VA carrying openly in a restaurant you either don't eat out much, or you don't pay attention.

You might be surprised how many people are carrying concealed while you're already in a bar or restaurant. Remember Luby, Texas or whatever the town was where the people were killed while eating by the crazed gunman? One person there whose parents were killed normally carried but didn't that day. This person may have been able to save some lives had they had their gun with them.

And don't forget the couple beaten in Lansdowne a couple years ago. They were out for their morning exercise in a very "safe" neighborhood when they were attacked and the man was killed. The man also usually carried but, unfortunately, that day he didn't and he paid with his life. I haven't heard more about the case. I certainly pray the lady made a full recovery.

You know what's really scary? The fact that these "bars" sell alcohol to people who drive their vehicles to the establishment? Would you believe that these same people leave the "bars" intoxicated? How responsible is that? Have you heard that drunk drivers kill people, not their cars but guns kill people not the people who use them? Nutty huh?

Anyways I've ate at plenty of establishments while openly carrying my pistol. No negative feedback from patrons and I've never been asked to leave either. No blood has been spilled 'cause they spilled my drink or got my order wrong.

Also have you heard that gun owners can carry openly or concealed in National Parks in Virginia and other states? There's another reason to dislike Virginia

Default Wild West Days in Virginia

I couldn't believe the news that people can carry guns now on the Blue Ridge Parkway! I guess camping is out of the question up there with all of the crazies lurking about! I will not be surprised if we see guns in the classrooms soon in Virginias' public schools, that is if there are any left when McDonnell leaves office!

I'm kind of clueless about gun laws in general. Are there places where guns aren't allowed, like churches or schools?

News Flash! It's not just the Blue Ridge Parkway; it's all National Parks.
Federal Eye - National Parks Gun Law Takes Effect in February

So, don't "blame" McDonnell for this one.
