Hi,

I'm a member of the Langley Swim and Tennis Club in McLean, VA and trying to help the club look into website management and online registration as well as volunteer management options. I'd like to find out what software other swim teams are using, how they like it, what else they may have considered, and how they decided on a particular solution.

We are currently considering TeamUnify, ActiveNetwork, The Groupery (a general purpose online registration and volunteer management tool), as well as Lianas Swim and Tennis Club Website Solutions (for website content management). ActiveNetwork owns the Hy-Tek Meet Manager software that most if not all swim clubs use to manage swim meet info.

Regards,

Nathan Ward

I sent my post via e-mail to a number of e-mail addresses that I found in the Northern Virginia Swimming League Handbook. Following is the responses that I've gotten so far. If you have any experience with selecting website and related tools for swim and tennis clubs, I'd love to hear from you.

As Nathan was saying, ActiveNetwork is a very expensive solution. I have found a couple of different options that I am looking at for our team, the links are below. We have not decided on one yet but will use one this season. I am leaning towards the first one but I also like the other two.

Online Registration, Online Sports Registration Software at SportsSignup.com 1-866-975-8600
Online Sports & Event Registration for your sports club or league

Great Falls Swim & Tennis just bought club management SW a few years ago, but we don't have anything special for swim. Our web hosting has something we use for registration - it's not great.

On-line Rapids Registration

Bill Kemmerer - GF Rapids A Meet Rep

HI Nathan, I have cc'd the new team rep at highlands on this email, Dee Romanek so you would have her address and she can comment also. She did a lot of research for online registration for us this year, we chose ActiveNetwork. She really has done all the work on it, but I think so far she is pleased. We are in the final stages of development with them and have run a couple of tests on it. Dee had several conversations with some teams that actually have it in production, so she may want to chime in and provide some feedback she got. I know that Machine Aquatics (USS Swim PVS) uses it and has found it the one that works the best for them.

From Mary Johnson:

I am the team rep for Forest Hollow in Annandale. Last year we switched to a small local company named Vikaza. You can check the club website out (which links to the swim team on left hand column). They offer online registration, free website, very easy setup, volunteer signup, etc. I love them…if you visit their site you’ll see testimonials from me about the site. They were flexible, helpful, and have made changes as we have asked for them.

Charu Chundury has been my contact (charu.chundury@vikaza.com). We love them…

Good luck. If you call Charu, please tell her we referred you.

We also looked at activex. They are great but cost was higher. They had more bells and whistles than what we needed for summer swim.

Default Introducing SwimTopia

Hello --

I realize this thread is months old, but I wanted to make you aware of SwimTopia, a new solution on the market for managing swim teams.

Running a swim team is a huge amount of work and frankly the solutions available are all cumbersome, rigid or missing some key piece of functionality.

When I volunteered to run the computers for my kids' team, I was amazing at how under served the swimming community is with regard to technology solutions. I swam in high school on my school team and year round team, and I still swim on a masters team, but it wasn't until my kids were swimming in a large summmer league program that I got a first hand look at the immense amount of work that goes into organizing teams and running meets.

For the past 15 years, I've been developing web-based applications. I was previously the the chief technologist at world-renowned design firm frog design (frog design | Global Innovation). My entire professional career has been spent building building world-class web-based applications and exceptional user experiences for companies like Apple, Microsoft, Dell, Sun Microsystems, T-Mobile and Blockbuster. When I saw the huge need for a better solution for opportunities, I decided to apply that expertise and start a new company to build SwimTopia and create the best and friendliest swim team management solution in the world.

I'm very proud of the results so far, and we're just getting started!

Thank you for your consideration,
Mason Hale
