You can feel spring in the air. It's still early--some of the trees are starting to bud, others have been in bloom for a week but won't hit peak for another ten days or so. Today it's still chilly, at 50 degrees... but tomorrow it will be in the 70s, and we'll see the low 80s by the end of the week.

Seems like a good time to start a photo tour of northern Virginia in spring. If we start today then we can catch the whole arc--trees going from bud to peak to afterglow.

So here we go... the beginning... It's like an orchestra tuning the instruments before a symphony begins.

This last shot are peony sprouts that have just pushed through the dirt. By May they will be magnificent bushes.

Thanks! I think the weeks before the blooms hit peak are just as pretty as peak week. There's such a feeling of anticipation. You can almost watch the buds unfolding.

Great photos (and yes, I liked the garbage can too. Mostly because its kind of a hilarious counterpoint to all the pretty blossoms, but hey, if you want to wax philosophic, a little touch of realism points out this isn't just a pretty picture, this is where we live.).

Where were these taken?
