Does anyone know the history of that old farm in Countryside? It is located off of Askegrens Lane. There is a large pond and a huge old barn and wondering if it is still an active farm and if there are any livestock/animals on the property. We have bought a home that looks out over the farm property, so just curious!
Thanks!

Although it may have been a farm ages ago is was previously a grass landing strip; I believe the barn was actually used to store planes.

Check out Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields: Virginia: Loudoun County for more info (You'll need to scroll down until you get to the section for "June Field".

My understanding is the previous owner of that land and the Countryside developer really butted heads in the 80s.

Per the county assessment database, it is currently owned by a couple named Askegren.

I own the property and live there with my wife and son. What would you like to know?

I can't really say I blame him. No offense, but I'm sure most would prefer the aesthetics of the Sterling of 1980 vs. the Sterling of 2010. Sprawl hasn't been kind to Eastern Loudoun County.

You just have such a beautiful property and was wondering if we would be treated to a lovely view of any farm animals

We love the history of your property as well, and I'm sure my boys would have loved to have seen airplanes taking off and/or landing.

We only have chickens now. It is a great place to live. If you want to walk down to the river sometime, let me know.
