Hi, I am looking for an internist or a family doctor who is caring and does well with what he/she do. I live in Fairfax, so anywhere within 15 miles works for me. Also, how often do you get your blood test for diabetes or just regular follow ups?

If this isn't too far for you, I really like my family doctor, Dr. Timothy Muir, at the Arlington Hospital Center. He is a member of Dr. Patrick Correnty's practice. Maybe they have a second location nearer to you.

Fairfax Family Practice. Read the MD bios on their website to help you choose a provider. A lot of the internists in the area aren't taking new medicare patients, so if you are medicare you may need to hunt around a bit.
This is so not the place to be asking about your blood sugar. Please find a physician soon.

There is a trick to finding good doctors here. It took me awhile to discover it. It's like the Seinfeld show where George pretends that he was once engaged to a really beautiful woman and uses that to enter the "forbidden city" of REALLLY beautiful women. That's how doctor's are here, you have to get into a good general practitioner, then use their referrals to get into good specialists. My advice, look at list of the top 100 general practitioners in this area ( How We Find the Region's Top Doctors - Health (washingtonian.com) ) , then try to get an appointment (even to see one of their nurse practitioners). If you can't get an appointment, ask everyone where you work who they see, and when you find one that goes to a great doctor, ask them to refer you. If you don't do it this way you will be stuck with one of the many mediocre physicians in the area and be referred to the same class of specialists.
