I actually welcomed them at first knowing they were a sign of warm weather. They were in my kitchen--on the counters near the sugar jar and it ended a short while after they started. Now, just this week, I'm finding them again in the kitchen. They're the small little ants that seem harmless enough, but now I just found some on my family room floor on a piece of cookie one of the kid's dropped on the floor.

When do you worry about ants, and any non-toxic suggestions for getting rid of them? Thanks.

Buy some Raid ant baits -- make sure they're the double-control ones, not the regular ones. Set them out and let the ants swarm on them. Within a few hours they'll be gone, and won't come back.

My experience is identical. The second wave is inexplicably gone now, too. Perhaps my sucking them up with the vacuum was successful!

I have a pest control contract. Ants invaded during/after the blizzard. It was relentless, it was a battle. The pest control guy won. They popped up in another area this past week. eewwwww, hate them. They are fascinating but awful. I have sprayed. But I know they are there hiding. If I'm not vigilant, they will emerge again. Since they come in a trail, if you see one, there are sure to be others.
