I am trying to find a condo for rent in the Alexandria area, near the PTO. I can't seem to find any websites for this. Does anyone know of perhaps a realty that specializes in rentals. I checked Realtor.com and only found 8 listings. I have also been on Craigslist..not much there either.

Thanks- Savannah to Alexandria..I can't wait to get there!!! :-)

I am a patent examiner at the USPTO. I tried to find apartments near the office about 3 years ago, when I moved here. It was a real challenge. The rents are quite high in this area compared to other cities in the US. There is a type of monopolistic situation with many of the large buildings being owned by just a few corporations. I ended up at Mason Gardens Apartments (2327 Duke Street, Alexandria VA 22314). It is about a 10 minute walk to the PTO and Metro...very convenient. Depending on your art, you might be spending many long hours at work. I certainly was glad to live very close to work because of the excessive demands of the job. My rent is the lowest I could find in this area. There are numerous new apartment/condo buildings with units for rent, within a few blocks from work, but they are asking about $1700 per month for a 1BR. I pay less than $1100 for a 1BR in a 40 year old building. It is a basic apartment, sufficient, but nothing special.

Additionally, here is a link to Alexandria apartments. None is extremely far from work.

Good luck.

Check the Foxchase Apartments off Duke Street in Alexandria.

If you are looking for some other options, see if you can find something off Belle View Blvd in zip 22307. Very close to the GW Parkway with its beautiful river views and bike/running trail between Mt. Vernon and DC. The only disadvantage is that you have to cross the Beltway (95/495) to get to the PTO.

Best of luck to you and welcome to the area!

Default Property Search

You can search all area sales and rentals from live MLS data at Condo 1 of Alexandria.

http://www.condo1alexandria.com/property-search.asp

You're probably interested in 22314, 22307 or 22303, but there are several other zip codes that might work for you too.

I am a patent examiner and have lived in Sequoyah Condos for 2 years and highly reccomend it.
Its right down route 1 and you can avoid traffic on 1 by using the GW parkway to get to and from work in under 15min, plus there's a ton of buses running up and down 1, including the REX which goes to PTO.
Sequoyah is still quite affordable and prices will go up faster than surroounding areas due to BRAC at fort belvoir.
