My fiance just got a job in Merrillville, IN (we're from Akron, OH & will be re-locating) and I was looking at places around the Hobart area to live. Currently we cannot afford to buy a house, but would love to rent one. My problem is, I cannot find places online to look at houses for rent in Hobart. Can anybody tell me, are there a bunch of houses for Rent in the area? Are there a lot of nice apartments for rent in that area? I have went online and found several homes/apartments for Rent in the NW Indiana area, but only 2 of those houses/apts. were in Hobart (most the rest were in Gary *ugh*). I am planning on driving out there soon and driving around for a few days lookin for a place. I just want to know...is it going to be a waste of my time? Should I be looking somewhere else?

Thanks!!!

Why are you focusing on Hobart? Any reason?

Most of the rentals are going to be found by having boots on the ground - not in the MLS or on craigslist.

I'd also look at Crown Point & Schererville.

Default Condo For Sale

I have a 1 bedroom condo for sale. If you're in the market for an affordable cost affective to renting.

Well to be honest, I'm focusing on Hobart because from everything I've read it seems like a great area (it seems very similar to where I live now...Cuyahoga Falls, OH) and because it has Lake George. I know it sounds crazy, but I feel WAY better living by water. Since I'm not so lucky as to get to move next to the ocean, I'm stuck figuring out something else. I would like to live somewhere within walking distance to a lake. Are there any better areas than Hobart that has water and that is close to Merrillville? Are there any apartments/condos/houses for rent that are located on a lake anywhere close to Merrillville that anybody knows about?

As for you Ed, do you have a number/email/website that I can contact you at? We won't be moving for a few months, but if your place is still available by then, I would love to take a look when we get in town.

Thanks a bunch!

If you are serious about having lake property, Cedar Lake, IN might be your best bet. Other than that I would go for Crown Point. Hobart is fine, just too close to Merrillville, Gary, and Lake Station. Hobart is more about commercial property at this stage than they are about residential. Look into Crown Point, you might be surprised.

Crown Point is pretty darn close to Merrillville too.

I'd look in Highland, Griffith or Munster, in order to be close to IU NW.
