Gary Airport to Mark New Passenger Service - Newsroom - Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick
So how do you guys think this first flight will go and will it lead to Gary serving as Chicago's 3rd airport. What about passenger use and would YOU be willing to fly out of Gary/Chicago International airport.

I've known people to actually fly out of Gary and love it. Less commute than O'Hare of Midway and no long lines, free parking. Just real quick and easy. Commuter service isn't its niche though and should be Cargo.

Indiana is a big logistics state with Indianapolis obiviously and trucking.
But also Lake Michigan and the ports and now the Gary/Chicago international airport so that will be interesting.

See, there you go again, BRG -- Chicago and Gary in the same sentence; therefore, Gary = Chicago. Very Narnian.

I don't like either city but i see an opportunity to benefit the state of Indiana as a whole here and drag business out of Chicago/Illinois which i will take.
Bringing Logistics to Indiana creates hundreds of jobs and also tax revenue

On a serious note, could GYY actually be successful? It honestly could, its main drawback is well the region itself, non-supportive of anything if it doesn't benefit them directly in some way. It doesn't mean pouring tax dollars down the drain either. It does take region buy in with patronage of the airport and the people actually using it instead of giving Illinois their dollars to spend on Illinois residents when they can pay less and their dollars go towards the state they live in which indirectly helps them in the end.

If you look at it, O'Hare will always pull north/west/NW burbs/International traffic. Midway will always pull central Chicago and the like due to locations, South Suburbs and NWI has to choose form O'Hare or Midway when GYY is actually closer for them esp. on the Indiana side and again would be cheaper for both since it is in Indiana which is just cheaper to begin with. Will it ever be uber busy, no but if done right could be a very good economic engine for Lake County with at least limited regular route and not some gimmicky HootersAir type deal and Allegient seems to have found their niche in the market with 39 straight quarters of profit so they apparently know what they're doing. Build on limited passenger to entice cargo carriers and you could have a very nice balance with airport usage and generate economic output that just currently isn't there for LC at the moment.

If you were to take a mid-size airport in Indianapolis and a small airport in Louisville, you'd be surprised how much overall traffic they have. Both have relatively small passenger traffic, but with UPS World Port in Louisville and the second largest FedEx Hub in Indianapolis, their cargo traffic are both top 20 world wide and top 10 US. Technically GYY is situated better than both since it has rail (a stones throw away), highway (a stones throw away) and water (a stones throw away) with easier access to/from than IIA or Louisville. Indianapolis lacks water as the white river can't hold jack but Louisville does have the Ohio River but it's not Lake Michigan.

When people use it on a consistent basis, it will grow based off of consumer need.
