The school system down here is Kankakee Valley School Corporation and they have been absolutely WONDERFUL for my son!

Good luck! There are lots of great programs out there and more are cropping up everywhere as the numbers of children diagnosed increases.
Valparaiso+ best schools period!

Hi there ...

I have kids in the Valpo school system and I'll vouch for the fact that not only are the schools rated excellent, this is a community that really supports their kids.

The downtown area has great shops and restaurants, hosts the infamous Popcorn Festival every September, has TWO community theatres ... yada yada yada.

You'll also find that Porter county has the LOWEST property taxes out of Lake Co, IN, & Will & Cook in Illinois. We have a 3500 sq ft home on an acre, value is probably about $350K and our property taxes are a hair under $3K. You can't beat that.

For $500-600 you might want to look at the Aberdeen subdivision in Valpo - it's an upscale developement with tons of young families, great golf course and a community pool. If you'd like to build, there are quite a few lots still available.

ETA: gniarmls.com is the local portal to NWI MLS - the system that the Realtor's use, without specific agent-only information of course

We lived in Aberdeen. Didn't like it at all ... too many "we have arrriiiiivved" mentality types. That may have changed, but we just felt like there were too many snooty people there and the HOA fees were outrageous!

I would recommend living in Munster because the schools are superb! They also have great special education services as well. They are a blue ribbon school district... The city of Munster is fabulous as well... you can't go wrong... you should take a tour there and visit someone in the schools...

Welcome to Indiana! I would definitely look into Munster, St. John, Schererville, and Crown Point which are all great towns with exceptional schools!

Best of luck!
