Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd share a rather disappointing experience I had at the South Shore station in East Chicago.

This week, my vehicle was broken into in the northwest corner of the lot. It was there just during the regular work day-- not even overnight hours. Anyways, they shattered the passenger side window and proceeded to go into the glove compartment and steal what they could that was concealed in there.

The only reason why I am posting this is because I'm actually pretty good about keeping everything I have out of sight. I basically put everything away before I even get to the train station. Nothing is left visible for for someone passing by my vehicle to see. Now, my car is an older luxury variant, but it certainly isn't something that flashy or expensive. They basically broke in on hope.

The other disappointing thing is, nobody even bothered to report it to transit police. The cars that were parked next to me (which always park by me) were already gone by the time I got to the station. They only take one train earlier than me usually. I'm really hoping that it happened after they left the station and not that they just didn't want to be bothered reporting it. Then again, there was so much glass everywhere and such a large, webbed hole in the middle of the window that it was pretty noticeable from even far away. Someone surely had to of noticed it.

So, just a sad reminder that even when you're good about concealing your valuables, people still will just break in your car to see what you might have. Even when the Transit Police Headquarters is stationed right there in the lot.

Add this to the laundry list of reasons why we need the West Lake Corridor months ago.

Thumbs down Attack last night.

Apparently vehicles aren't the only thing you need to worry about at the EC South Shore. Use the bathroom--get your throat slashed AND your car stolen. Apparently, one of the people interviewed said their vehicle was stolen about two weeks ago as well. Truly depressing..

That's HORRIBLE! The last bastion of reliable public transportation in Indiana ... sigh.
