Yes. Marquette Park is stunning, set in the Dunes with lagoons and the beach. If it were in Chicago, it'd be considered one of the city's finest parks without a doubt.

The Chanute Aquatorim is another beautiful building in the park located on the waterfront

Hatcher is dead
Marquette Park is beautiful again - no commercialism
We don't want visitors that buy homes - if you want to do that go to Fla.

Well....I think you are wrong Artemis. NEVER in our lifetime have there been more people living in central Chicago, without a car, within walking distance to the South Shore line.

My predeiction is that these are the people that will turn Gary around, first in Miller and later in the city itself. The South Shore is already starting to serve this burgeoning population by agreeing to let bikes on their trains, something most train systems already allow. This will start a flood of weekend carless urbanite Chicagoans to discover Miller and the Dunes...

and the rest will be history. mark my words.....

If Gary ever rebounds, (mark my words) they cannot (and I know this sounds insensitive) but they cannot allow historic structures to become homes for low income residents. Prime real estate in Gary is being turned into more low income housing that will just continue to repeat cycles of poverty. What Gary needs is gentrification. And while there are some high earners in the city itself, many of the folks with the means to turn around Gary (and actually have a connection to the area) are long gone in places such as Merrillville, Crown Point, Hobart, and Valparaiso and have no intentions of setting roots there again. True, gentrification usually doesnt happen by those who have any connection whatsoever to a specific area, but Gary is a different story. There is just not enough amenities at all in such a vast land to turn around the whole city. I could see certain places like Ambridge-Mann turning around but for the rest of the city, forget it. Glen Park is bad and I don't think it has seen the worst yet. Miller is a nice area and they need to continue to redevelop (esp their little downtown area along Lake St). Miller would probably be better served as its own town.
