Hi,
Moving from sw wisconsin to NWI, my wife will be working in Merriville and Valparaiso. Any suggestions on areas to avoid? Areas to look? She is ok with up to about an hour commute. We prefer to try and rent a single family home. I also would like some decent schools and with 2 young kids safety is a concern as well.

Thanks,

IAMAMRA

Avoid Merrillville. I lived there more than 20 yrs ago & it was going bad then.

Valpo is much nicer.

Where will your wife be working?

I don't know the name of the place, but she will be going back and forth between Merriville and Valparaiso.

No questions: if she's working in Valpo, move there. I'm in Munster, and I love it, but Valpo is gorgeous, with good schools and a charming downtown with great restaurants, shopping, a super-pimp YMCA, and a nearby university. If you're into vintage Victorian homes, you'll have your pick. You might like into Crown Point, which has even better schools and also has a charming downtown area.
