Hello! My family and I plan to move to desirable Munster from Chicago within the next year. We have been looking at houses online and have seen a few. Our preferred area is Wicker Park or the neighborhoods by Elliot or Hammond elementary school. My question is concerning the Little Calumet and if there is still flooding in Wicker Park? I know they regulated and invested a lot of money getting it in order after the bad flood a few years ago. I have seen some nice homes for sale by River Dr. and nearby streets. Can anyone here help out with this information if they live or know someone that lives in Wicker park? And are there any issues with Hammond being on the other side of Little Calumet? I am sorry if these questions have been addressed before, but I could not find any information on it. Thank you in advance!

Wicker Park (the actual park) is technically in Highland not Munster.

The flood control projects recently completed address 99% of your concerns. This would only really affect certain very specific parts of Munster anyway...it just depends on how far north you go. Your lender will certainly let you know where flood insurance is required.
