Preface by saying that I have known his brother and his crew for over 20 years. However, Marty should be fired. This isn't a one time mistake, this is years of lies. I think the outrage is going to force the mayor to fire him.

Wow, 40 views and no one has an opinion on using a gvt job to facilitate dog fighting and still being able to keep the job? You guys aren't representatives of the lake county I know.

What is there to say? lt's just another public sector crook sticking it to taxpayers. Like our now convicted county cop who wouldn't quit either.

I hope the mayor changes his mind fast otherwise he's likely to have repercussions. I kind of understand why he's not wanting to fire him. Marty is a hometown hero bc of his boxing career, he's lived there his whole life, has a family and I don't know what he'd do for work. His identity is so tied to Whiting.

That being said, he needs to be fired. It'd be one thing if he does it once but this was a years long breach. I'm so curious how he got involved. I don't think that the guy he helped went to Clark but he's the same age as Marty.

People on fb are already planning to protest during the wine and dine event September 8. The mayor is naive to think that this would be easy to resolve.

Whiting parks director resigns in the wake of dogfighting-related plea. Mayor says dog fights weren't staged at city animal shelter | Crime and Courts | nwitimes.com

He resigned. I figured the mayor couldn't keep him once people stated complaining.

I am happy that he resigned. I was going to have to boycott the Pierogi Fest if Mayor Tom didn't do anything about it. What a mess. Whiting has made some great and positive strides in recent years. You hate to have a scandal like this cast a shadow on the town.
