I was wondering if I could get an opinion on some of the gyms in NWI. I have worked for a few fitness clubs in the area so I know quite a bit about them, but I can't really tell what gyms are going to do well in NWI in the future. Thanks

Fitness Pointe. I've never been so happy with a gym.

Omni Health & Fitness (AKA Omni or Omni 41) is hands down seen as the overall best gym in the area due to the vast array of activities available as well as available childcare if needed. It is also a 24-hour gym. Omni also draws from a pretty wide radius throughout Lake County and even eastern Cook and Will Counties. Fitness Pointe is a great club as well but they are only open 5 AM to 10 PM during the week and 6 AM to 7 PM during the weekend. However, they do have the benefit of a non-binding monthly membership. Recently, more smaller gyms have been expanding (e.g. Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, etc.) that have been more appealing to a larger population of folks that may not be as comfortable in larger gyms. They are typically less expensive as well. Omni is a popular gym which can be great if you want to socialize as a lot of people go there but could be bad if you are conscious about yourself and in the presence of others that you may know.

A number of my "mommy friends" really like Orangetheory but it seems the most expensive way to go. Perhaps that could be motivating to make the most out of your paid visits.

Also popular are Omni and Fitness Point. When I toured a few years back, Omni was more dated than Fitness Pointe but did offer more options (like Tennis). Fitness Pointe is well-maintained and the childcare is excellent. It seemed that Omni was busier when we toured during the weekend than Fitness Pointe but Fitness Pointe actually has on older crowd that goes during the week and then sort of clears out on the weekend (especially later in the day).

Omni is better if you're into the gym culture or looking for a date. Imo, FP is better for someone who might be self conscious bc it's mostly older people who don't care. The pool isn't busy and the Pilates studio can be accessed for a nominal fee. My grandma belonged to the cardiac rehabilitation part upstairs and she loved it, too. I had a personal trainer and got to learn trx which I really liked.
