My thoughts are that it will become a rather mundane and underwhelming development; whomever decides to develop it.

Merrillville doesn't want anything nice, which is such a shame. This spot should be able to cultivate a shift in the look and feel of the area given how big that space is.

Are there any updates on potential redevelopment for the site? After driving around Merrillville a bit it seems as though the commercial areas may be contracting but maybe we just drove through the wrong areas?

Last I heard, the White family stopped all ideas of developing the site and put it up for sale. I could be wrong but i believe it's another stagnant project site now.

The Convention Center idea is already in motion utilizing the Century Mall spot. Barring a high rise business park complex, I'm at a loss as to what really needs to go there anymore.
