Anyone with experience with Lake County Special Ed programs? A relative's family may live with me and they have a young child with special needs. On the LC website it looks like there is only one dedicated special ed teacher for grades k - 4. I have also heard about a special ed coop but not sure how that works.

In IL the schools have a dedicated special ed teacher for each grade plus blended rooms. The special ed in IN seems weak to me, but interested in hearing from anyone who has experience it.

I know there is a NW Indiana special ed cooperative, but not all the school districts in NWI belong to the coop. It really was started decades ago for districts to pool resources (before it was legally required to teach special needs students). You really need to look for the specific information for each school district. Legally they must provide the services outlined in the IEP.

Not in NWI, but in IN I had a nephew that was special needs. He spent most of his time in a single classroom, but did participate in some things with the non-special needs classroom. There were several teachers in his classoom. His needs were very extensive.
