What are the most common natural disasters here, and how often do they happen? We plan on moving to NWI area early next year 🙏🙏

Natural disasters are very uncommon in this area. We do get a lot of snow, so blizzards aren't always uncommon. This area usually has a couple days of heavy snowfall each winter, but nothing too terribly extreme. One of the most significant snowfalls in recent memory occurred over Groundhog Day in 2011.
Thunderstorms are usually the biggest threat, from say April to August. High winds and flooding are the most common threats. Tornadoes are exceptionally rare. Dyer did get a tornado in May, but that is a very rare occurrence. In fact, it is one of the only tornadoes I can remember ever occurring around here. This isn't to say that we don't get severe weather, but it is not nearly as common as in other parts of the U.S.
I always say we live in a very safe, weather-stable area.

The biggest issue that you would likely face is flooding as most of NWI was built on land that is swamp/marsh and drained using ditches. Heavy rain plus old/inadequate infrastructure has caused issues across the region more than any other type of disaster.

Yes, there tends to be high rates of mosquitoes, at least in my personal experience. I think it's just the luck of the draw, though. For example, I get bit all the time, but my son rarely does.
