I am making a move to Chicago from Nashville in a few weeks and my planned route seems to have been altered because of road construction in Northwest Indiana. I was planning on taking 90 West then onto the Chicago Skyway. The re-route seems to recommend I take 94/80 West and getting off at the Cline Ave exit, go north onto Cline Ave and then get on 90/Indiana Toll Rd. West. Does this route sound best to the locals as far as getting to Chicago? Would you recommend something else? I don't want a lot of issues on my move date and would like the quickest and most reliable route possible. It will be on a Sunday (June 1st.) just so you know.

There's always construction in NW Indiana. Fortunately, they post the alternate routes pretty well. The alternate you listed will be fine, hectic, but fine. Just budget more time if you can. Don't worry, you'll see a lot of people doing the same thing as you.

The intersection of 65 & 80/94 is completely and horribly messed up ... and it will be for a while.

Honestly, if you're just making the trip on a Sunday (and not anytime during the week rush hour) I would recommend skipping the Skyway (and the sky high price that goes along with it) and just take 80-94 west into Illinois. And then 94 towards Chicago for the rest of the way.

Good luck.

I always take the Skyway to Chicago, it's much faster than taking 80-94. Your instructions to take Cline Ave North is correct. When you get into Indiana Harbor, you'll find the road has a lot of curves, with many lanes. Be careful, as some tend to speed thru there.

You're leaving Nashville? That's where I am living now.

Have a safe trip ! :-)
