""I've found some apartments in Merrillville and they also look good. I don't remember where I read it but somebody said that Merrillville wasn't safe.

Is that zone a problem? is really that unsafe?""

It depends on what part of Merrillville you are considering.

Well,.... I'm just looking around for apartments and we like this one:

Broadmoor Country Club
3944 W. 77 Place, Merrillville, IN 46410

Lincoln Village, maybe?
It's close to the US30, I guess that should be good.

Which places should we avoid?

They say Summerwood (sometimes called Summerhood) in Merrillville is bad. I know someone who lived in Mallard Bay (which is considered nice) and did not like it much. I'd be a bit reluctant to move into an apt complex in Merrillville. The town is OK, but it's right next to Gary.

I'd prefer Munster/S'ville/Dyer/St John over Merrillville.

I know nothing about how bad/good Summerwood is - but that complex is much closer to Crown Point than it is to Gary.

Fair enough. I did not mean to say that Summerwood is a bad place b/c it's close to Gary. I've heard it's horrible and its apartmentratings.com verified that.

That said, there are parts of Merrillville closer to Gary that may have some spillover from the problems in Gary proper. Anecdotally at least, M'ville seems to be less popular than some of the other local communities.

Completely agree.

And I think that the popularity has more to do with the ratings of the Merrillville school system than it's proximity to Gary.

Broadmoor & Lincoln Village are right next to each other. Both are in a good area.

Summerwood is in a nice area as well.

Good luck with your move! I would definitely recommend Munster, Dyer, St. John, Schererville and Crown Point - they are all great communities for you and your wife. There is plenty of shopping, dining, and entertainment in Lake County and you are still close to Chicago.
