This weekend already saw Bette, Mo'Nique, and later this month they're bringing in James Blunt, STP, and later we'll be getting Alicia Keys and Smashing Pumpkins to the venue. Pretty big acts considering the location, but will it work?

Smashing Pumpkins was actually this past Saturday 8/9/08. I was at the Casino and the Venue on Saturday.

1)The Venue is very nice.Great sound and lights. Not a bad seat or angle in the place. You can hear perfectly anywhere in the seating area.

However,it is bull*&08 that you cannot smoke in it (even in the bar area.) They make you go back into the casino (the Venue "lobby"). Two words: Stupid.Half the reason I went to the show is because I thought I could smoke in the Venue or at least the bar area. Coming from communist Illinois and Chicago, this is important to me. People were smoking in there anyway (and not just cigarettes.) I refrained from smoking, but I should have anyway. It is not like they have enough security to stop hundreds of people smoking. The ceiling is like 50 feet high in there. All the smoke rises into the air filtration system anyway just like in the smoking parts of the casino. Again, no smoking in the Venue:Stupid. Once people find that out less people will go. I think most of the people at this show were there because they thought they could smoke.

The bar area is not large enough. It is severly lacking for a place that can hold about 3000 people. There is only enough space for like three lines. Very understaffed also. Three bartenders (in a full selection bar) working a show with 3000 people?! It took about 10 minutes with only like 7 people in front of me to to get a pair of BEERS which is unacceptable in a place that size. Rating=6 Could be a 10 with HUGE changes.

2)The casino itself looks really good. Great air quality(even in the smoking areas),ample walking space between the games, nice seats, good selection of games...I won some money. All was good in that department. Not enough beverage waitresses. Not many places to find a drink. Signage was bad. We had no idea what part of the Casino the Venue was located in. There were no maps. A very long walk also. It took like 15 minutes to get to the Venue after entering the casino. About 30 minutes from turning off onto the casino drive we arrived at the show. Unacceptable. Rating=8 Could be a 10 with changes.

3)The buffet was ok tastewise except for the fact that most of the food I ate was cold (but was supposed to be warm or hot). It seemed like the buffet had a problem with understaffing also. We were seated at a dirty table. When we asked the hostess for someone to clean it and she then looked at us like we were from Mars. She asked someone to come over and clean it. The guy just shrugged and walked away while mumbling under his breath. We did not sit down until the table was clean. My friend actually had to go find someone to wipe the table off. Rating=3 Could be a 8-9 with changes. $20 to eat cold food while dealing with horrible servers? No. I wont try it next time.

The potential is there, but in its present state the place overall is only about a 6.

I looked on the casino website. They are hiring for many positions. Are there that few unemployed people in the area that it is that hard to find workers?
So if you are looking for a job please apply. The whole place is woefully understaffed.

Yeah the show was pretty good. No James and D'arcy anymore though.

Yeah, I would be concerned if there's ever a concert or show where the crowd is required to get a little rowdy. Ending up on the lake floor in a casino is not how I envision my death.

The crowd will be even more rowdy for STP on Thursday night...

I believe The Venue is located above the main casino floor.

I hope the floor was designed to bounce like that (which it might have been)...
