I don't reside in The Region, but based on my many travels there I would have to say Valpo, hands down. Small college-town atmosphere with an attractive downtown, an independent restaurant offering, attractive neighborhoods and shopping amenities. It doesn't have a mall, but it doesn't take long to get to Southlake Mall, and the water park along U.S. 30 looks fun, too.

1. Munster, safe, established, closer to Chicago, charm, rather upscale
2. Valparaiso, safe, nice downtown, cleaner air, less traffic, open spaces, university
3. Crown Point, nice downtown, safe, small town feel, charm

I go with Merrillville because of the things to do. It's not as bad as Gary, yet not as whitebread as a Munster...nice diverse mixture.

Valpo.

Great schools & family centered community.
Popcorn Fest.
Great housing value & property taxes. (My property taxes haven't increased since 2001.)
Smoke free restaurants.

I can't decide Lived in Valpo, but it's suburban, not that it's a bad thing. I like Crown Point too ... ugh! But then you have the gritty towns that lend themselves their own charm ... whiting, south hammond.

I can't vote.

I voted for Griffith just because I grew up there
