Anyone from Portage will tell you to stay away from Hobart and vice-versa. Simply because the high schools are rivals. I'm from Portage and I liked it. The school system is big and offers a lot of opportunities that a small school doesn't (advanced courses, college courses/prep, vocational, languages, sports, etc.) Hobart is about the same I think... maybe a little smaller. Portage is growing like crazy right now which is both good and bad. However, I've moved to Valparaiso. I can't say anything about the schools since I don't have kids in them but I much prefer the city to Portage or Hobart.

well hobart is probably the better of the 2. but school wise neither are the best schools if I were you I would look at chesterton or valpo for good school systems and lower crime rate. Portage has become a trash town with plenty of drugs and gangs and hobart is close to gary so its not all that great either. i have lived in hobart chesterton and portage and i would def go with chesterton or valpo. if you have any other questions id be happy to answer them
