Thinking of moving to Gary... I loved it there when I visited my Grandparents. Such happy memories... Is it a nice place now????gussie

No, not even close. There are really nice communities outside of Gary, but Gary itself is awful.

Gary is wonderful! Palm tree lined streets. People are so courteous to each other. You dont have to lock your door at night. You can leave your car running while you go into the store and no one will bother it. Plenty of good paying jobs. Broadway, especially downtown, is lined with immaculate storefronts and the stores are just teeming with business. Kids in Gary get up each morning with a smile on thier face. Happy to go to Garys wonderful, high achieving schools. The people in Gary are all drug and alcohol free. The place is full of solid citizens. Yea! Move to Gary! You'll absolutely LOVE IT!!!!

cant say much about it as far as safety goes but what I will tell you is that its use to be an industrial city around the turn of the 20th century for the great lakes, for the past 50 years its been a terrible place as far as the economy goes and with the current economic recession, Gary is not on most people's minds.

Gary is fine,there are a few bad areas,but in general gary is a good place ,the south west area is the cleanest and safest
